'Sleuth' Edit 17th onwards...
Although it was initially a pretty terrifying prospect, editing a final graduate student film was something I was also very excited about and saw it at as a very positive challenge.
After several days trying to familiarise myself with the clips and perform the timecode link to the audio, I was soon building some scenes and bridging them with the montage sequences. Being a fan of film noir, I was very excited to see how I would fair with this task trying where best to follow some of the conventions.
My director and I worked tirelessly and intensively and we have now got to a stage where we are at a picture lock.
I haven't edited a lot of fiction so it was definitely interesting to get into the swing of editing something different. I cannot wait to see the project in the later stages!
'Sleuth' Shoot Days 13th-17th as BTS Camera and Stills Photographer
As the editor of 'Sleuth', part of my role was being a Data Wrangler to make sure that all footage could be ingested efficiently for the edit stage of the final film. The days were busy as whilst I was waiting on the rushes, I was making sure to get some behind the scenes content for our social media and production folder. The crew were a very fine bunch and the actors were also fantastic to work with on this.
The first three days (including a preparation day), saw us in a studio in the Meon Valley, despite hoping to shoot on campus. With the circumstances changing amid the recent computer hack of the university facilities, we were able to bring the set to our new location. Our DOP's father had made us a wonderful set which really created strong looking scenes, with strong performances to top it off.
Our final day took us to Romsey to shoot our 'cottage' segment in an 'airbnb'. The location was charming, with a very nicely set out cottage for the closing sequences of our film.
I really look forward to editing 'Sleuth' and later bringing together all the stills for our production folder submission and getting stuck into the Behind The Scenes film.

1st AC'ing on 'Sweet Talk' 10-11th April
Now I am in my final year of university, I've felt the key, in spite of recent circumstances, was to get involved with as many final films for my final year at university as possible. Firstly to gain good experience and second, to make use of the fantastic cameras that the university gives us access to. Although I was happy to have secured an editing position on my final film, 'Sleuth', I definitely wanted to have some involvement in a camera role on a bigger scale project at university.
Having also secured a Colourist role on 'Sweet Talk' and having friends on the project, I was certainly keen to help in the camera department if I could. Very excitingly the DOP on the project, Hannah, was keen to have me on board in the camera department, so I was on board with shooting imminent.  Over a couple of days, the shoot was very enjoyable indeed. The choice of cameras was the Sony FS7 and A7Sii for some shots taken with a Ronin-S. It was really fun to work with the actors and be able to effectively work with the DOP on the project. The shoot went very well and any obstacles were quickly overcome and it was sentiment to good planning and organisation beforehand.
I am very much looking forward to being able to grade the final film and give the visuals that extra punch in post.
